A well-known Buncrana taxi man is hoping to ‘pickup’ a few bob for charity today in honour of his little granddaughter.
Loving grandad Liam Lynch will be hitting the road for a busy Thursday and will be donating all fares to Friends of the Coombe – a charity which supported his family during a difficult time.
Liam’s daughter Mary Porter gave birth to her daughter Sarah on the 15th of May 2013 at 27 weeks.
Baby Sarah spent the first few months of her life at the Coombe Hospital for women and infants. Her parents Mary and Mark received great help and support from the Friends of the Coombe charity, and the family are forever grateful.
Now aged four, Sarah is a healthy little girl who is full of life.
Today, grateful grandad Liam is offering all payments from his taxi runs to give back to the charity. Thursday is one of his busiest days in the trade and he is hoping to get plenty of kind-hearted passengers throughout his trips around Buncrana.

The Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital takes special care of babies born prematurely. It is a national referral centre for pregnant women who have complex pregnancies and delivers over 9,000 babies annually, with over 1,000 of these babies spending time in the Neonatal Unit.
Money raised by Friends of the Coombe supports the needs of women and infants from all over Ireland and funds vital research and projects.
Liam famously did a 12 hour golf marathon at Buncrana golf club on Sarah’s first birthday. While he embarks on a business challenge today, his son Michael faces a physical marathon challenge later this month.
Michael will run the Dublin City Marathon on October 29th for the charity that supported his family on the birth of his niece.
Michael only took up running in January and is hoping to put his best foot forward for Friends of the Coombe.
