A family is said to be considering leaving a Donegal village due to ‘bullying’, it has been claimed.
During a discussion about Garda presence, Councillor Michael McBride told Tuesday’s Letterkenny Municipal District meeting that a family was to leave the Kilmacrennan area.
“It is deplorable to think that any family who have made their home in a town has to consider moving out like this,” Councillor McBride said.
“The family is considering leaving Kilmacrennan because of bullying.
“It is because there is no law and order.”
He was speaking after Councillor James Pat McDaid tabled a motion calling for the MD to write to the Minister for Justice asking that they consider purchasing a suitable premises for a Garda station in Churchill.
“Churchill should never have been closed,” Councillor McDaid said.
“We hear of a lot of shops being broken into and the local Garda station could be such a big help on this. No-one can be identified. The Garda station is the local contact for the local area and it’s vital.
“Churchill is a small village only 10-15 kilometres from Letterkenny. The town is growing out the way all the time.”
Councillor Ian McGarvey said that every area should be considered in this regard.
He said: “The presence of a Garda barracks is not just for security, but advise and contact. This comes at a time when Post Offices are closing – we are soon going to have people without services of any kind.”
