An upbeat team of volunteers braved the cold night air on Friday last for the annual Sleep Out in aid of the North West Simon Community. The event was another success for the community, who are incredibly thankful for all the local support they have received before, during and after the night.
On behalf of North West Simon, Collette Ferguson Donegal Development Officer would like to express her gratitude to the businesses and volunteers for getting involved in this year’s annual ‘Sleep Out’ held on Fri night, 6th Oct.
Collette said, it is growing from success to success and it is solely down to the good-will of the volunteers who brave the elements for one night only so others don’t have to. The volunteers had one with aim and that is to help make a difference to Simon in their Community.
Collette said: Thank you to each and every individual for your generosity and for supporting the volunteers who took part. Thank you kindly, to the many businesses for ‘adopting a sleeper’ on the night, it is greatly appreciated.
Thank you to those hotels and bars for permitting access to volunteers during their collection on the night. It’s not always an easy ask but every penny, no matter how small, can go a long way.
Thank you kindly to The Four Lanterns, Pat’s Pizza and The Brewery for your continued support over the years; it is always greatly appreciated on the night.
Thank you Cllr. Jimmy Kavanagh for launching the night, for your kind words of support and for highlighting the current situation of homelessness in Donegal and throughout Ireland.
Finally, thank you to the Garda for keeping a watchful eye over us all throughout the night.
North West Simon Community prevented 186 families and individuals during 2016 from becoming homeless in Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo and need your support more than ever with more and more people in the North West are today turning to the cause for help and support.
Right now, there are over 8,000 people stuck in emergency accommodation and many more in housing insecurity in Ireland. It’s time to act. Sign our petition and demand social and affordable housing for all. https://action.uplift.ie/campaigns/229
