A helmet and lifejacket belonging to the crew of the missing Rescue 116 helicopter have been found in Mayo.
A member of the public discovered the items washed ashore yesterday morning in Elly, near Clogher.
Sligo-based Rescue 118 was involved in a detailed search of the area along with Ballyglass Coast Guard, although unfortunately nothing else was discovered.
It is believed that the items may belong to Ciaran Smith (38), who remains missing along with his colleague Paul Ormsby (53).
Gardaí told the Irish Independent that it would appear they belong to Smith, and said that the items are currently undergoing tests.
The remains of their fellow rescue workers, Captain Dara Fitzpatrick and Captain Mark Duffy, were recovered shortly after their Coastguard helicopter crashed on March 14th into Blackrock Island.
Despite extensive searches, the remains of Smith and Ormsby have not yet been recovered.
Killybegs fishing vessel MFV Westbound has previously been involved in search efforts, with special search gear being donated by netmakers Swan Net-Gundry of Killybegs.
