A Tractor Run in memory of Kilmacrennan man Joseph McGettigan took place yesterday, with over 160 tractors taking part.
21-year-old Joseph sadly passed away in February this year, with the run being chosen to remember him by as he had a great love for vintage tractors.
The family day out included a bouncy castle, face-painting, a barbecue and a pop-up pub, with DJ Tubsy playing music throughout the day.
The run took place from Kilmacrennan to Milford, past Golan Chapel, down by Lough Salt, and back down to Kilmacrennan.
Joseph’s father Laurence told Donegal Daily that the day was a huge success.
“There was a very good turnout, there were 160 tractors and a few vintage cars. People of all ages came, it was a great day,” he said.
The idea to host a Tractor Run as a way to remember Joseph was thought of by Joseph’s dad, mum Eileen, his sisters, brother, his girlfriend Louise Carr, and family friends.
“Joseph had a good few vintage tractors of his own, and we wanted to keep that alive, he loved doing up his vintage tractors. He had a good pair of hands on him and enjoyed restoring them.”
Seven of the tractors that took part were very special, as they belonged to Joseph and Laurence.
“After Joseph died, his girlfriend Louise, brother Laurence, and sisters Sarah Marie, Margurite, Lorraine, Mary, Hannah, got a tractor each and drove them during the run.”
Sadly Laurence’s mother Margaret passed away last weekend, but Joseph’s family know that she would have been very proud to see how successful the day was and how many people took part in fond remembrance of Joseph.
Laurence says that they hope to make the Tractor Run an annual event, and said that they were very well supported in organising the day.
