Michael Hegarty has moved a step close to getting that elusive Donegal SFC medal – but the former Donegal star knows that Kilcar still have some way to go yet.
Dr Maguire hasn’t been in Towney since 1993 but, with last year’s defeat by Glenswilly still fresh in the minds, Kilcar won’t be taking anything for granted.
“We wanted to get back to the final, we’re back there now and it’s great to look forward to the final,” Hegarty – pictured above by Joe Boland, North West News Pix – said.
“It’s been a long time, but that’s the way football goes. It would be great for the people of Kilcar if we could get over the line.”
With Ryan McHugh scoring two first-half goals, Kilcar made light work of St Michael’s last night.
Hegarty said: “They sat back a bit and we worked the goal. If you get a goal like that it puts big pressure on the opposition.
“Getting the right scores at the right times is vital in the Championship. The second goal killed it off, the tempo was down.”
