A Donegal county councillor had pleaded for more speed awareness days in towns and villages across the county.
Finn Valley Councillor Patrick McGowan has been informed by Donegal County Council road safety officer Brian O’Donnell that such an event will be held in Liscooley tomorrow Wednesday 20th September from 1.pm – 3pm.
Cllr McGowan said while welcoming this speed awareness day initiative he would like to see more of them taken place outside all schools in the county on a more regular basis.
He said “Liscooley village itself is particularly difficult in that vehicle speed has actually increased since the recent road surface improvements works and while this initiative is very much welcomed something more will have to be done to make traffic slow down.
“There is great concern in the village that someone will be killed if more traffic calming measures are not installed immediately.
“There’s is a Church, school, community hall and graveyard directly across the road from each another and the Church parishioners, school Board of Management as well as residents and businesses are demanding a pedestrian crossing but were told by senior TII officials that traffic speed is too high at present,” said Cllr McGowan.
The Donegal Road Safety Working Group is committed to working with local communities in Donegal in promoting road safety.
Members of the local community, Gardai and members of the DRSWG will be in attendance at tomorrow’s event.
