Suspended sentence for Carrigart man who had €7,000 worth of drugs

September 9, 2017

A Carrigart man found in possession of over €7,000 worth of drugs has been a suspended sentence.

Robert Deehan (42) of 179 Church Road, Carrigart, was before Letterkenny District Court this week.

Garda Stephen Moyles was on plain clothes duty on March 23, 2016 at Letterkenny Bus Station.

Information had been received that drugs were being transported to Letterkenny via the bus.

Garda Moyles’ colleagues were dealing with another individual when he observed Robert Deehan acting in a suspicious manner.

Father-of-two Deehan was carrying a Sainsbury’s shopping bag containing nine ounces of cannabis herb and one ounce of MDMA

A subsequent search of Deehan’s home in Carrigant found just over an ounce and-a-half of cannabis, weighing scales, deal bags and a separated bag of cannabis.

The total street value of the drugs was €7,480.

“There was a substantial amount of drugs involved,” Judge Paul Kelly said.

“These are very serious charges.

“I remind people of the harm done by the sale and supply of drugs to often vulnerable people.”

Judge Kelly imposed a six-month suspended sentence on Deehan, who is to continue to be under the supervision of the probation service to monitor his cannabis use.
