The 85th anniversary of St. Patrick’s Chapel in Meenacross will be celebrated by the community tonight.
Opened in 1932, the Chapel has hosted hundreds of weddings, communions, christenings, and other wonderful events throughout the years.
A celebratory mass will be hosted at 7:30pm tonight, followed by a band recital by local bands including Maghery Senior Band, Dungloe Band, and the Meenacross Band.
Sweet treats and tea will be also be served in the social centre.
The committee promise a wonderful night filled with beautiful memories.
It was Leabharlann Phobail na Rosann librarian Fiona Sweeney who noticed that the chapel is now in its 85th year, and decided to get a committee together to mark the occassion.
In July, the chapel got a fresh lick of paint, and the grotto got a facelift with a remembrance seat being added to give locals a tranquil spot to remember loved ones who have passed away.
Locals have been sharing their memories and photographs of the Chapel on their Facebook page. Weddings, Communions, Christenings, and all other celebrations of years gone by have been shared for the community to enjoy.
A Book of Memories is now available at the Chapel, where members of the community are invited to add a story, anecdote, photo, name or drawings for future generations to look back on.
The younger generations have also been very busy making stunning artwork of the chapel, with this impressive model being made by Eoghan Walsh.
