A 42-year-old woman who pleaded guilty of stealing five items of clothing from a shop in Letterkenny was given the benefit of the probation act.
Andrena Mulhern, of 49A The Maples, pleaded guilty to the offence from June 9, 2017.
Security staff spotted the incident on camera and, after Ms Mulhern left the premises without paying for the items, valued at a total of €68 followed her.
In evidence, Garda Horan said that Ms Mulhern was escorted back to the shop and the goods recovered in a re-saleable condition.
Solicitor Frank Dorrian said his client was a 42-year-old single lad who was ‘under difficult circumstances from time to time’.
“She was in the company of another person at the time. The offence occurred at the behest of the other person for the benefit of the other person,” Mr Dorrian told Letterkenny District Court.
“She is genuinely ashamed of herself. She is aware of the damage to her reputation and standing.”
Judge Paul Kelly said that, given the early plea, he was applying the probation act.
