CONVOY 3-08 V 1-12 MUFF Muff’s Colm Mc Colgan opened the scoring with a fine point in the third minute, but Convoy responded well with a Gavin Sweeney point in the third minute and a goal by Paddy Dolan a minute later, his first attempt had been saved by keeper Joe Mc Cauley but Darren Bonner picked up the rebound and feed Dolan who made no mistake when given the second chance. John Toye added another Convoy point to make it a four point game but Muff hit back with three in a row in three minutes from Aiden Lynch, Brian Mc Colgan and a James Breslin free to leave one in it. Back came Convoy with three points in a row ,all from Anthony Browne, the first a free and then two from play and the lead was out to four again. But the pattern of the teams scoring in threes continued as Muff kicked three, two frees from James Breslin either side of a excellent score from play by Brian Mc Colgan in first-half injury time to leave it 1-05 to 0-07 in favour of Convoy and all to play for in the second-half. Paddy Dolan kicked an excellent free from 45mts to open the second-half scoring but Convoy then missed two good chances before Brian Mc Colgan brought it back to a one point game yet again. That didn’t last too long as Dolan kicked a super point and then did brilliantly to set up John Toye for a goal, cutting in from the left side and hand passing to Toye who blasted to the roof of the Muff net to make it 2-07 to 0-08 to Convoy. They almost had a third when Paul O Leary’s shot hit the inside of the post but back again came Muff with a Dermot Keaveny point and then a cracking goal from Oisín Mc Colgan who took a pass from Cathal Mc Colgan and blasted the ball into the top corner of the net to leave it a one point game. That didn’t last too long as Convoy struck back quickly, Dolan looked to be fouled but Referee Marc Browne played a good advantage and Dolan’s shot cum pass found Paul O Leary free in front of goal and he blasted to the net to make it 3-07 to 1-09. Breslin’s free and a Cathal Mc Colgan point from play narrowed the gap but Paul O Leary replied and try as they might Muff couldn’t come back again as Convoy held on to win by 3-08 to 1-12 and clinch a semi-final spot with Red Hughs.
