Over 500 homes have been affected, with 47 families being displaced following the flood.
Cathaoirleach of the Inishowen Municipal District Cllr Jack Murray says that almost 100 are receiving support from the council, and at least 300 roads have been damaged and are in need of repair.
The total damage incurred will cost an estimated €400 million to repair, and according to MEP Marian Harkin, Donegal should qualify for EU Aid to help with this sum. She has contacted Minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran, Minister of State for the Office of Public Works and Flood Relief, to initiate this process and also made contact with the European Commission regarding the possible application.
Minister Moran says; “The clean-up operation is going to be enormous, adding that the people of Donegal feel like they are being left behind and whatever can be done for them needs to be done fast.”
Pat Carey, Chairman of the Irish Red Cross adds; “People’s lives have been badly affected by these floods, the sooner life is brought back to normal, the better.”
The Irish Red Cross say thank you to everyone who has helped so far.
“Thank you so much for your support, and we will be giving you updates again soon,” they concluded.
