And then there were eight.
Glenswilly have made their exit and are not among the eight teams still standing in the 2017 Donegal SFC.
The remainder of the heavyweights are still there, but a 0-16 to 1-9 loss in Towney this evening ended Glenswilly’s tenure as the champions.
The Donegal competitions controls committee (CCC) will hold the quarter-final draw at 8pm on Monday at Jackson’s Hotel in Ballybofey.
Kilcar, last year’s beaten finalists, gained some measure of revenge for that final loss to Glenswilly as they lowered the Glen colours in a game that had 12 yellow, two black and one red card.
Despite a late Christopher McMonagle goal, Glenswilly couldn’t get close enough and, after a defeat to Gaoth Dobhair last week, they exit at the first hurdle and, for the first time since 2009, are not in the quarter-final pot.
For the first time in four years Gaoth Dobhair will have a number at the next stage after Dáire Ó Baoill’s brace helped them to a 2-21 to 1-7 win over Ardara.
Former Donegal star Colm McFadden scored FOUR goals as St Michael’s advance with ease thanks to a 6-12 to 1-10 win over Malin that was easier than they’d anticipated.
Bundoran had 14 points to spare on MacCumhaills with Jamie Brennan and Tommy Hourihane goaling in a 2-19 to 1-8 rout, but the Stars of the Sea will be without Brennan for their last eight tie after his straight red card late in the contest.
It was a battle for Group D’s top spot a O’Donnell Park and St Eunan’s flexed their muscle to come from five points down for a 0-15 to 1-8 win over Naomh Conaill.
There were red cards for St Eunan’s ‘keeper Blake Forkan and Naomh Conaill attacker Seamus Corcoran.
Killybegs are in the quarter-final mix for the first time since they reached the 2013 county final. Four points from Christopher Murrin were key as the Fishermen defeated Naomh Muire 0-12 to 0-9 at Eamonn Byrne Memorial Park.
Killybegs pipped Burt to top spot with only a point to spare. Burt, in their first year back in the senior grade, are in the last eight of the SFC and this Friday face Setanta in one of the SHC semi-finals.
A draw will also take place for the relegation play-offs with Ardara, Four Masters, Sean MacCumhaills and Naomh Muire in the battle to avoid demotion to the Intermediate Championship.
In the Intermediate Championship, the three group winners – Cloughaneely, Aodh Ruadh and Glenfin – will be kept apart in the quarter-final draw.
Naomh Columba, Milford and Buncrana advanced as runners-up while Gaeil Fhánada were the two best third-placed finishers and will also be in the pot.
St Naul’s squeezed through thanks to a better score average than Naomh Ultan.
The draws for the Senior B and Intermediate B quarter-finals will also be conducted.
