Fine Gael T.D. for Sligo, Leitrim, South Donegal and West Cavan Tony McLoughlin says that the HSE is considering the provision of a new fixed cardio catherisation laboratory at Sligo University Hospital.
A cardio catheterization laboratory allows medical professionals to visualise the arteries and chambers of the heart by using diagnostic imaging equipment, allowing them to identify any abnormalities.
The establishment of such a facility will benefit the people of Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, West Cavan, North Mayo, North Roscommon and the entire Northwest region.
Chief Operations Officer of Saolta University Hospital Group, Ann Cosgrove told Deputy McLoughlin that she acknowledges his previous
correspondence on the matter and that she can now confirm that the case has now been submitted by Saolta to the HSE for consideration.
There has been much anger and frustration expressed by many politicians locallyabout the length of time it was taking for the Saolta Hospital Group to conduct this business case.
McLoughlin stated that “A fixed Cardio Cath Lab for the Northwest region is an absolute priority for me and my office. All one needs to do is to take a look at a map of Ireland to see the true picture of this situation.
“There is nothing in place above the straight-line from Dublin to Galway. The Northwest region and the people who live here are totally left out.”
