Authorities at City of Derry Airport have been forced to close and cancel all flights in and out of the airport due to flood damage.
The busy transport hub has been struck by a deluge of flood waters after the overnight rain which has devastated many parts of the North West.
Passengers who were due to travel from City of Derry Airport today are being warned not to come to the building. Passengers are also advised that heavy rain and flooding has led to hazardous driving conditions on the road. People are told to contact their airline directly with queries.
Pictures shared on the airport’s Facebook page show the departure hall, offices and outdoor areas all under several feet of water.
A statement from the airport said: BMI Regional flight, BM1501 from City of Derry Airport to London Stansted, scheduled to depart at 06:10hrs on Wednesday 23rd August 2017 has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
As a result, BMI regional flight, BM1502, from London Stansted to City of Derry Airport, scheduled to depart at 08:40hrs on Wednesday 23rd August 2017 has also been cancelled.
