Several roads across Donegal are said to be ‘treacherous’ this evening after flash flooding in the county.
An orange weather alert is in place, for heavy rainfall and thunder, until tonight and motorists in Donegal have reported very poor driving conditions.
The main Letterkenny-Lifford road, the N14, is said to be particularly bad in patches.
Approaches into Stranorlar on the N13 are ‘almost impassable’ such is the volume of rainfall.
Surface water on the R236 between Raphoe and St Johnston is also causing difficulty for drivers, with areas around Donegal town and Buncrana also suffering.
Drivers have been urged to be cautious.
Earlier this evening, the Head of the Garda Traffic Corps, Inspector Michael Harrison, told Donegal Daily: “It is so important that drivers do not take any chances and that they slow down during heavy rain.”
