Many young people and prospective students all over the country have already accepted their third-level college places after the CAO round one offers were released today.
Others are being advised not to panic as they consider their options.
The entry requirements of places at third level courses were released at 6am on the CAO site today. The lists show a fall in points for more than half of all courses across Irish institutions, while up to 40% of courses have increased points since 2016.
More than 52,000 college places were offered this morning and a record number of students received their first choice degree under the new grading system.
Round One points requirements at Letterkenny Institute of Technology have not had many significant changes, with various rises and falls in entry requirements for places at Level 6, 7 and Level 8 honours courses.

Paul Hannigan, President of the LYIT, said a team is on hand to help future students of the Donegal institute with their questions.
“The points are up for the majority of courses but they have not risen significantly so the majority of people who applied are happy today,” Mr Hannigan said.
Mr Hannigan assures applicants who are not happy or who may have questions to come to an information day at the Letterkenny and Killybegs campuses this Wednesday, 23rd August from 11am.
“I would encourage people who are considering offers, who are still waiting and who are unsure about courses to come along and get additional help. It makes a significant difference to come and see the options that are available,” Mr Hannigan said.
The Available Places List on the CAO site will be updated to show the remaining courses with vacant spots, he added. The deadline for acceptance of round one offers is next Monday. Round two offers will be made on Thursday the 31st of August.
A rise in points has occurred in the majority of LYIT Level 6 and 7 ordinary bachelor degree/higher certificate courses. Programmes including Dental Nursing, Law, Hospitality & Tourism and Civil Engineering have seen an increase in required points.
Mr Hannigan said the rise depends on the people who have applied for LYIT courses, and he added that they hope to see an increase in first year students for the 2017/2018 year.
“I would pay particular attention to the Hospitality & Tourism and Culinary Arts courses we offer. Given the recent popularity of Donegal and the Wild Atlantic Way there are good opportunities for employment there,” Mr Hannigan said.
He encouraged prospective students to use the facilities that are provided for them over the coming weeks and to come along to the information days this Wednesday with any queries.
