The Cathedral Quarter will be hosting two events for this incoming Heritage Week; a traditional building skills workshop and a forage walk.
The traditional building skills workshops will be spread over two days, Saturday 19 August and Saturday, 26 August from 10am to 2pm at the Cathedral Quarter Office on the Church Lane.
The Forage Walk will take place this Wednesday, 23 August starting at 11am from Gaelscoil Adhamhain.
The workshops are an invitation to see traditional building skills whilst at the same time carrying out essential repairs needed which were highlighted in Conservation Plan for the Letterkenny Cathedral Quarter.
Sean Brogan of Tir Conaill Conservations will be leading the traditional building workshops on behalf of Letterkenny Cathedral Quarter. They specialise in conservation, renovation & restoration services.
The skills that they hope to demonstrate include traditional building restoration, clay and linseed paints, install cast iron guttering and downpipes, and restoration of a sash window without losing character. Small scale work will be carried out on No. 1 and No. 3 Church Lane and a shed to the rear.
On Wednesday, they host their fun, family foraging event in Rogers Burn. Come along and identify native trees and plants, and gain insight into their past uses both culinary and medicinal. Foraged treasures will then be cooked up on Church Lane afterwards.
Kids will create a visual 3-dimensional art piece that will later be displayed in the Church Lane area of town. Respect for the environment will be maintained throughout.
Organisers ask that you please dress weather appropriate as your adventure will take your across the stream.
Booking for the Forage event is essential and can be done by contacting Amanda Clarke on 0838762565 or through the Facebook page: Letterkenny Cathedral Quarter.
