Hundreds of mourners united in Bundoran today to say a fond farewell to the highly-respected publican Nan Brennan.
Ms Brennan, one of Bundoran’s much-loved citizens, was laid to rest at Finner Cemetary following funeral mass at the Church of Our Lady Star of the Sea.
The people of Bundoran came out en masse today to line the main street to show their respect to the late Ms Brennan and her family. Her coffin was carried past the iconic Brennan’s Criterion Bar, which Nan owned and managed with her sister Patricia.
There was widespread mourning when Nan passed away on Sunday August 13th at the age of 80.
Nan, along with her sister Patricia, ran Brennan’s Criterion Bar in Bundoran for a lifetime. This famous pub opened in the 1900s by the Brennan family and in all those years remained more or less the same, run by the two famous sisters.
The bar became a landmark place in Bundoran, where customers both local and visiting were always sure of a warm and friendly welcome.
Earlier this year Brennan’s fronted the Hop House 13 ad series – with the sisters being picked for the campaign as the bar has been at the heart of Bundoran life for decades.
The community of Bundoran has celebrated the memory of Nan Brennan and mourned the loss of a local legend this week, who will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.
