It’s time to reveal the results of the Donegal Daily Readers’ Poll of the Hottest Beer Garden in the county.
The people of Donegal have voted for their favourite places to enjoy drinks under the sun, and the results are a great mix of spaces with top atmospheres and unique features.
Over 600 entries have been compiled to present the Top 10 list, so now you’ll know where to go wherever you are the next time the mercury rises.
Good music, great views and woodfire pizzas are all plus points for these great drinking hotspots. We just hope the sun keeps shining so we can get to them all before the end of the season!
In order of votes, here is the Top 10 Beer Gardens in Co. Donegal:
1. Teach Mhici, Gaoth Dobhair
This West Donegal pub offers sunshine, pizza, wine and beer, what more could you want? It has been voted by our readers as the perfect beer garden, where visitors enjoy munching on a freshly made wood fired pizza and unwinding with live music.
2. Jackson’s Hotel, Ballybofey
This space has become a big draw locally, with beer and cider offers ideal for getting friends together to wind down after the weekend.
The Summer Sunday Sessions provide cool sounds and hot sun, and you’re sure to catch a great artist here each week.
3. The Waterfront Hotel, Dungloe
The new Dungloe hotel has a walk-out garden space attached to its grand function room that has become a favourite hideout during events and sunny days.
The landscaped terrace is beautifully designed, while you can admire the sun sparkling on the sea with magnificent views at the front of the hotel.
4. Mc Cafferty’s Bar Mountain Top Letterkenny
This traditional Irish bar outside Letterkenny is a top favourite for locals and tourists. It is most famous for its sundowners, where you can enjoy a pint or other drink and look across the horizon at some of the best views in Letterkenny.
5. The Coach House, Donegal Town
Tucked behind this bar on the way into Donegal Town is a large and cool beer garden. It’s a real hotspot in the town for relaxing with friends and enjoying drinks in a chilled out environment.
6. The Cavern, Letterkenny
The town centre pub opened a new beer garden last year that is a top place for summer parties. Summer sessions here with fun cocktails and ciders always go down a treat.
7. Surfers Bar Rossnowlagh
Sunsets over the waves of the Atlantic Ocean greet you in the beer garden at this beachside bar. Surfers is part of the Sandhouse Hotel, and a real hot favourite of thirsty beachgoers.
8. Nora’s Bar, Kilmacrennan
Locals flock to Nora’s at the weekends for top trad sessions, music, bites and sips in the sun. The music is a major plus point at this bar and they always seem to have a brilliant line-up.
9. The Shack, The Brewery Bar, Letterkenny
The Shack caused a stir when it opened before Rally weekend 2017 as everyone loved the novelty of a shipping container being turned into a bar.
Now, it’s popular escape off the main street and a great chilled-out place for soaking up the sun and meeting people.
10. The Orchard Inn, Letterkenny
The sun shines down on the outside area of the Orchard Inn to make the perfect beer garden spot on the High Road.
They have the whole outdoor experience wrapped up – with hot weather, cold beers, good food, music and 4K TVs.
Now the outdoor parties continue on downstairs at The Orchard’s new nightclub Fifth Avenue, which hosts Outhouse DJs every Sunday.
