Big-hearted Seamus Coleman has again showed his qualities – donating almost £8,000 to help a group of Everton fans reach their fundraising efforts.
A group of 23 Everton fans cycled 230 miles from the Showgrounds in Sligo to Goodison Park, Everton’s home ground in June.
Their journey was to raise money for the Everton in the Community homeless project ‘Home Is Where The Heart Is’.
They targeted the sum of £60,000 – as a nod to the bargain price Everton paid to Sligo Rovers for Coleman in 2009.
Coleman – currently recovering from a double leg break sustained playing for Ireland against Wales in March – is regularly serenaded with the terrace chant ‘sixty grand, sixty grand Seamus Coleman…playing football the Everton way’.
When the group – who cycled from Sligo to Dublin before getting the ferry to Holyhead – fell a little short on the target, Coleman stepped in and pledged £7,860 on the JustGiving Page.
“Well done everyone involved with the fundraising!” Coleman posted.
“I’m glad that my donation helps with reaching the fundraising target of 60,000.”
