Letterkenny 24/7 Members took part in events all over the globe this August Bank holiday weekend- flying the club colours in Galway Germany, Omagh, Mulroy Bay, Dungloe and Lough Fern.
Military World Elite Triathlon Championships
Gavin Crawford travelled to Warendork, Germany to take part in the Military World Elite Triathlon Championships. 21 different countries took part in this standard distance event with all competitors trained and stayed at the German Olympic training school of excellence for 4 days prior to the race. Gavin finished the race in a brilliant time of 2:07.
Loughrea National Series Sprint Triathlon
Padraic Mitchelll travelled to Loughrea for the National series sprint triathlon hosted by Predator Triathlon club over the weekend. He finished in a time of 01:18:55, winning the M60-64 category.
Tri the Lough, Omagh
Twenty three club members made their way to Loughmagrory just outside Omagh on Saturday morning to take part in the Tri the Lough sprint and try a tri events.
Michael Black- in his first ever open water triathlon- was the first 24/7 member to cross the line in a time of 1:09. Ita McGettigan was 1st 24/7 female to finish in a time 1:22:34 the F50-59 category. There were some excellent performances on the day. Shane Collins and Patrick Doherty had a sprint finish, nothing separating the two, both finishing in a time of 1:16:25.
Fiona Gibbons took on her first sprint event- Fiona completed the 750m swim and bike course, with her husband competing the 5k. Phillip Browne wowed the 24/7 supporters with his smooth transition off the bike! 24/7 had a very successful day overall with everyone performing brilliantly, full results listed below.
Tri the Lough, Try a Tri
Five new club members took on the try a tri event which consisted of a 300m swim, 10k and 3.2k run. Martina O’Donnell was 3rd female in this event, Martina exited the water in 2nd position after a brilliant swim of 07:07 and despite having an accident on the cycle, finished strongly in 3rd. Georgina McCrudden was just behind her in 48:49. Julie McBride crossed the line in 50 mins, Carol McCabe completed the course in 56:46 and Sheral Hetherington in 58:30. Well done girls, we look forward to seeing you all take part in many more triathlons.
Mulroy Bay Swim
24/7 was well represented at the Mulroy Bay on Saturday afternoon for the Madge Carr Mulroy swim. Fergus Callaghan was 2nd in the Mulroy Mile swim in a time of 26:28 just 4seconds behind the winner. Anne Robinson was 3rd overall, 1st female in 28:54 with Niamh McDaid not far behind in 29:22. Indeed the top 3 females were all 24/7 ladies, Louise Alcorn finishing in 33:23.
Sinead O’Kane was 2nd overall, 1st female in the 850m event in a super time of 14:17. Our popular club sponsor and committee member Adrian Wasson swam with his daughter Chloe, a junior member in the club, both finishing in a time of 25:10. Full results are listed below. Well done to all who took part, special mention to Shaun McDevitt, Ita McGettigan and Martin Robinson taking part in their second event of the day.
Martello Adventure Race
Four of our club members took part in the Martello Adventure Race in Dungloe- Shaun McDevitt, Keith Gordon, junior club member Neil Martin and Peter McLean. Shaun finished in 3rd place in a time of 1:06:13.
5k roundup
Natasha Kelly was 1st in the Kilcar 5k on Sunday in a superb time of 18:57, breaking the 19minute mark on home turf. Peter O’Donnell ran 17:13 in the Milford 5k with Gerard McGettigan winning the M50 category in 17:45. Michael Logue ran 17:48 in the Dungloe 5k
Lough Fern Duathlon
Well done to Keith Gordon, Gerard McGettigan, Ita McGettigan, Rachael Stilvern and Fiona Temple on completing the Lough Fern duathlon on Bank Holiday Monday. Results will be updated when they are available.
Rostrevor to Warrenpoint 3.8k swim
Well done to Patrick Patton, Karen Crawford, Paddy Bond and Sinead Diver who all took part in the 3.8k swim last weekend.

Margaret Kelly Chattanooga World Championships Fund Raising Duathlon
As most of you may already know, Margaret Kelly will be competing in the 70.3 World championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee on 9th September. Margaret’s excellent performance at the 70.3 in Wiesbaden Germany in August last year ensured qualification for this year’s World Championships.
It is not every year that a club member qualifies for such an event so with this in mind we are organising a fund raising duathlon to help with the expenses incurred for this event. The sprint distance-.2km run – 16km Bike – 3.2km run- triathlon will take place on Sunday 27th August from St Eunans GAA grounds. This event is open to everyone, no TI licence required, relay teams welcome and donation on the day is the fee for the event so please spread the word. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
