Charlie Dolly Boyle from Leabgarrow, Arranmore Island, sadly passed away on Friday following a short illness.
A former ferry skipper and station mechanic at Arranmore Lifeboat spanning three decades, Arranmore RNLI have paid a touching tribute to him yesterday, saying “we are proud to escort, for the last time, Charlie Dolly Boyle back to his native Arranmore.
“He sadly passed away yesterday after a brief illness. Charlie spent his working life on the sea, both as a Ferry Skipper and as Station Mechanic at Arranmore Lifeboat for over thirty years.
“A gentleman until the end , he will be greatly missed by his many, many friends.
“Our sincere condolences to all his family, friends and neighbours.
“Solas Mhic Dè ar a anam dilìs.”
Charlie, beloved husband of the late Irene, will be very sadly missed by his loving sons Colum, Killian, Mark, Paul and daughter Carmel, partners, grandchildren, sisters Mary, Francis and Sheila, brother John, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Charlie’s remains left McGlynn’s Funeral Home in Dungloe yesterday, going to Arranmore Island at 3:30pm. He is reposing at his late residence.
Funeral Mass in St. Crone’s Church on Monday, 31st July, at 11am. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
