Cllr James Pat welcomes the news that Irish Water have almost completed works for the upgrade of the Churchill group water scheme.
Works to connect the scheme to the Goaldrum Letterkenny water supply are due for completion in the end of August.
Cllr McDaid attended a meeting with Irish Water on Monday and received confirmation by email that works will be completed and upgrade is due in the coming weeks.
Cllr McDaid expressed his delight that residents of the Glenswilly, Churchill and Gartan areas will now hopefully receive good quality water. He said the issue has been something he has worked hard on since his election to Donegal County Council.
Cllr McDaid admitted that there have been delays along the way but the bulk of the work has being done now. Pumps are almost fitted and Irish Water officials assured him on Monday that the supply is available from Goaldrum, so it’s inevitable that the upgrade will happen in the coming weeks.
A recent email received by Cllr McDaid from Irish Water regarding Churchill group water scheme said:
Works have commenced at the pumping station in Gartan and when complete the Churchill water supply will be able to be fed from the Letterkenny water supply. These works will be completed towards the end of August. Elected reps will be notified when this is imminent.
Cllr McDaid said he is personally delighted that this is finally going to happen.
“It has taken a while but infrastructure is in place and supply is supposed to be available.
“No more substandard water for the local residents,” he said.
