There have been numerous sightings of the potentially dangerous Lion’s Mane jellyfish across the coast.
The latest sighting was on Tully Island, off the coast of Burtonport.
One of the enormous creatures was found on Carn Beach in Ardara last week, with another being spotted by Aodán Ó Cearbhaill as he was fishing in a small boat.
The jellyfish can reach up to 2 meters in diameter, with up to 150 barbed tentacles stretching up to 37 meters long.
Their sting is much stronger than other jellyfish found in Irish waters and can cause anaphylactic reactions in people who are allergic.
John Leech of Irish Water Safety says that they have been brought in with the high tides and estimates that at least one person is hospitalised after being stung each year in Ireland.
He also warns that the sting from their tentacles may last days after they have died, and if you are stung seek medical attention urgently.
