Islanders on Tory have been left puzzled after a huge metal object washed up off the coast of the island.

The huge structure, which is more than 40 feet long, washed up on the island recently.

Islander Peter Rodgers is among the many islanders puzzled as to what exactly the structure is.

Writing on his Facebook page, Peter says the island’s new addition has everyone guessing.

He said “I don’t think anybody has a clue what it is, its upside down for a start. Over 40ft long.

“There’s some kinda connection at the opposite side for water or air, for sinking or raising I’d imagine. It would be a good pontoon but there’s a couple holes in it, it’s fairly old anyway.”

The island community, which has a population of around 150, held their first every raft race last weekend.

But we doubt if it’s any kind of vessel from that event!

If you have any idea what the structure is, please send is your suggestions on info@donegaldaily.com
