The Taoiseach has vowed to ensure that everyone will receive a refund from Irish Water “before the end of the year”.
In an interview with the Sunday Independent, Varadkar says refunds will begin to be distributed in the coming months.
Households may receive up to €325 in an effort to put the Irish Water debacle to rest.
Varadkar says; “They’ll get their money back. They’ll be refunded this autumn. We’re gearing up to do that.”
Although there are “logistical issues” as to how Irish Water will do this – and it may require legislation – Varadkar expresses his adamance that the process of refunding will begin in autumn.
The €170 million in refunds will be separate from the Budget, and says that refunds will have already begun by the time the Budget is announced towards the end of this year.
