A Donegal engineer has prevented a hacking attempt on the ESB.
The ESB are working with The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) in an attempt to resolve the matter.
According to RTÉ, an email was sent to the Donegal engineer. The email urged them to click a link, making the engineer suspicious.
This type of hacking is known as spear phishing, when the email looks legitimate.
It is believed the hackers have links to Russia due a recent pattern of attacks across Europe.
Thankfully there has been no breach in security for the ESB.
The Department of Communications are to introduce legislation that will lead to greater cyber security measures being taken by key service providers.
