Ardara man Ronan Whyte has proudly flown the Donegal flag while visiting the Great Wall of China.
Ronan travelled to Beijing last week to take part in the World U18 and U21 Snooker Championship.
Bowing out of the U18 category last weekend, Ronan has now went on to play in the U21 section.
On the first day of the U21 section, he took on Brian Cini from Malta, and played a great match but was beaten four frames to two, with the Malta man making a top break of 77.
According to the official website of the tournament, 17-year-old Ronan’s competition break is 117; practice break 113.
The Chinese Billiards and Snooker Association (CBSA) have been hosting a series of events in Beijing which began on the 7th; lasting until the 16th of July, with the best snooker players from across the globe making the trip to China to compete.
Five of Ireland’s best young snooker players have made the trip to China, with Ronan being joined by fellow Irish men Noel Landers and Darragh Cusack in the under 18 section, and Shane Bates and Aarron Holland in the under 21 section.
Independent Councillor Micheal Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig says; “What a great achievement to get there and he has done his family, Ardara, and Donegal proud. This will be of great experience for the future and will stand him well.”
