Several hundred Fianna Fail members are to meet this Sunday to decide who will step up to replace the late Sean McEniff.
Members of Donegal Municipal District will meet at the Mill Park Hotel in Donegal Town where they will select the new councillor.
Voting members will number their top two preferences.
The four candidates; Elizabeth McIntyre, Billy Grimes, Michael Naughton and Roger Meehan, have been canvassing in South Donegal this week.
Controversy has arisen during the past few weeks as Fianna Fail members from outside of McEniff’s Comhairle Ceanntair have been eligible to run.
Councillor Sean Mc Eniff passed away on 21st April.
The 81-year-old politician was Ireland’s longest serving councillor, having been first elected in 1967.
He was named Donegal Person of the Year in 1996 and is the former Director of Bord Failte.
