A man has been jailed for two months for lashing out at security staff at a Letterkenny takeaway.
Denis McCauley, of 4 Ard na Ri, Long Lane, Letterkenny appeared at Letterkenny District Court.
The 30-year-old father-of-four kicked out at security staff at the Four Lanterns in Letterkenny while heavily drunk on April 17th last.
When Gardai arrived he continued to be abusive and was so drunk that Gardai could not understand what he was saying.
Solicitor for the accused, Patsy Gallagher, said his client should have know better but that he suffered from an alcohol problem.
The court was told that McCauley has ten previous convictions for various incidents including public order and drugs offences.
“He has a serious drink problem and has no recollection of the night. The last thing he recalls is waking up in the cell,” said solicitor Mr Gallagher.
Mr Gallagher pleaded for leniency for his client and asked if it may be a situation where the probation service could review Mr McCauley’s case.
However, Judge Paul Kelly said that McCauley had previously received both community service and a suspended sentence before adding “he hasn’t got the message.”
He sentenced McCauley to two months in prison for the assault charge.
