DONEGAL TD Joe McHugh has welcomed the planned restoration of Cardiac Rehab services at Letterkenny University Hospital.
The Government Chief Whip revealed today that Minister Simon Harris has signed off on new equipment for the Telemetry Monitor service which was being delivered from the St Conal’s campus at LUH.
The service was suspended two months ago due to equipment breakages.
The Department through the HSE are providing new equipment costing up to €50,000 and the service will resume in the next few weeks.
Minister McHugh said he is also working to increase staffing levels at the unit.
“Everyone agrees the rehab unit was providing an excellent service to Donegal patients but unfortunately new equipment was badly needed,” said McHugh.
“I’ve had it confirmed by the Department of Health that the brand new equipment is now being provided following an application from Letterkenny University Hospital and the Saolta Group and the service will return shortly.
“I wish to thank my Cabinet colleague Simon Harris for signing off on the new equipment and I am assured the service will resume as soon as it is installed.
“Importantly, it should be noted that the Saolta Group has confirmed that these recent issues are not affecting the monitoring of telemetry for cardiac patients in need of acute care. Telemetry services have remained in place in Letterkenny Hospital for these critical patients throughout this period.”
