Over 100 people attended the ‘Beyond Recovery’ mental health seminar on Friday night at the Raidsson Blu Hotel, Letterkenny.
The event was hosted by DeExeter House, the Termon-based treatment centre.
DeExeter House founder Angela Maguire is celebrating five years in operation in Termon. Noel Cunningham was MC for the night, which explored a range of topics.
Allison Devine, who hit the headlines recently when she was arrested for an air-rage incident while on her way to Donegal to get assistance for an alcohol issue, was among the speakers. She detailed her recent journey which has now resulted in her becoming alcohol-free.
Letterkenny GP Dr James McDaid gave an impassioned speech on the issue of mental health.
Former Scottish International footballer, Andy McLaren, Marie McGowan, who cares for people suffering from serious illness, Valerie Farragher, who is the founder of Life Wise, and Mark Maguire, who is Angela’s son, gave a description of the battles he had with drugs and alcohol.
