Activist Liam Whyte has called on the Government to provide funding for those who have had their homes and property damaged by flooding in parts of Donegal this week.
“There are people who have had their homes and property significantly damaged by flash flooding particularly in the Fintown area, while the Finn Valley and Gweedore areas also had flooding and these people need help and I’m calling on the government to provide financial assistance for the people affected,” said Whyte.
Whyte also claims that “this could happen again if proper flood protections are not put in place in high risk areas. Our county councils are badly underfunded at the minute and there needs to be a proper investment programme at government level to ensure that high risk areas are prepared for such an event happening again.
