The Finn Harps Secretary, John Campbell, has allayed fears that the club will not be in a position to meet players’ wages.
Harps have been placed in what club officials have termed a ‘sticky situation’ due to the postponement of Friday’s north-west derby against Derry City, owing to the Candystripes’ involvement in the Europa League.
Harps have just one scheduled home game in a seven-week period and there remains the possibility that the July 21 game against Cork City could also be shelved should Cork progress in Europe.
The Harps Board convened on Sunday morning for an emergency meeting to discuss the matter.
“We met on Sunday morning and we put contingencies in place,” Campbell told BBC Radio Foyle this morning.
“There is no difficulty – players wages will be honoured by the club.
“Obviously, the match against Derry City would have been the biggest financial generator of the season. It would be worth maybe €30,000 minimum. That would be an average figure over the year, so it’s a fair chunk to come out of the finance.
“it is a difficult time of the year for clubs anyway because we’re just coming back from the mid-term break.
“We have only one match at home in seven weeks so that is a huge challenge.”
Campbell also echoed the calls from Harps manager Ollie Horgan for League authorities to have a greater look at the fixture list around the European dates.
