Finn Harps’ North-West derby with Derry City, originally scheduled for next Friday, June 30, has been postponed.
The Football Association of Ireland say that ‘a new date will be set in due course’ and Harps officials have been left frustrated with the matter.
The game has been called off due to Derry’s involvement in a Europa League qualifier against FC Midtjylland of Denmark. Derry travel to Denmark for next Thursday’s first leg with the return leg, to be played in Sligo, the following Thursday.
Harps had been pushing for the game to be played on Sunday, July 2.
Harps were anxious to have the game played soon due to the financial implications that a delay would have.
Just last week, Harps official Aidan Campbell said: “We would be hoping for a Sunday game against Derry.
“If that was changed, that could put us in a situation. We would definitely hope for a Sunday.”
A Finn Harps statement reads: “Finn Harps Football Club have been informed by the FAI that under Clause 19.7 of the League’s Participation Agreement that their Premier Division game against Derry City scheduled for Friday 30th June at Finn Park has been postponed to a later date. The club will issue a further statement on this matter in due course.”
