The Palestinian flag was raised at Glenties Municipal District office in Dungloe today to welcome a visit from Ahmad Abdelrazek, the Palestinian Ambassador to Ireland.
Councillor Michael Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig, the chair of the Glenties Municipal District welcomed the Ambassador and said the raising of the flag was an act of solidarity with the people in the area of conflict.
Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig said: “It was a great honour to me as chairperson of the MD of Glenties to be a part of raising the Palestinian flag today alongside the Palestinian Ambassador to Ireland at our council office in Dungloe.
“Our two countries share very similar history and also with the reality of the ongoing occupation in the six counties and also in Palestine.
“I believe that it is vitally important to show solidarity to the people of Palestine. I would like to commend Sinn Fein councillors for putting this motion forward at one of our MD meeting.”
