Donegal is set to be bathed in balmy temperatures today, which marks the summer solstice and the first day of summer according to the astronomical calendar.
However, it’s not all good news as the hot and humid day could be dampened with a risk of thundery showers in the morning.
Donegal is forecast to reach highest temperatures of 19 to 25 degrees, with highest numbers away from coastal areas.
A risk of heavy showers is in place for the morning, but are expected to clear by the afternoon to leave a hot and humid day with chances of sunshine.
Met Éireann has said the dry and sunny weather will lead to a large increase in grass pollen in the air, meaning hayfever sufferers may see their symptoms flare up this week.
High UV level has also been forecast for the day.
Met Eireann issued a Status Yellow high temperature warning for other counties today, including Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Wicklow and Meath. Maximum temperatures of 27C or 28 C are expected in this region.
Tonight is expected to be dry, with mist, drizzle and fog forecast. It will be another warm night with temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees.
The forecast for Thursday says it is to be a fresher day with top temperatures of 15 to 21 degrees.
