More than 20 people were arrested last night as thousands of people poured into the county for the Joule Donegal International Rally.
However, the head of the Garda Traffic Corps in Donegal has said he is happy with the general behaviour of rally fans.
Those detained were arrested for a variety of offences including having no insurance and public order.
Inspector Michael Harrison told Donegal Daily “We are overall happy with how things have gone so far. Yes, we have a had 20 arrests but we have tens of thousands of people coming into the county for the rally.
“This is a huge event and you are going to have those who misbehave but overall we are happy with how things have gone,” he said.
Again Inspector Harrison stressed the vast majority of genuine rally fans behave themselves impeccably at all times.
* Inspector Harrison will be calling into our studios later today to give a live interview with Charlie Collins on our live streaming of the rally.
