Children from St. Columba’s NS Ballylast Castlefinn are celebrating success after being named the overall winners of the Cumann na mBunscol Primary School Athletics Competition at the Aura Leisure Centre last week.
The well deserved prize is considered a testament to the hard work that the children have been putting in all year in order to receive their first Active School flag.
Children at St. Columba’s have been running 1k a day each morning and this has had a huge impact on their fitness and performance levels. Dermot McGranaghan from Finn Valley AC has also been coaching the children in athletics for the past few years.
Pupils have also enjoyed taking part in soccer, Gaelic and handball competitions throughout the year. The school has now invested in a new sports kit in preparation for more competitions in the coming school year and they hope to receive their active school flag in September.
