The family of tragic toddler Caolan Melaugh have paid a touching tribute to their ‘darling’, who sadly passed away today.
The two-year-old from Killygordon had been battling an aggressive form of cancer since being diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma when he was just 10 weeks old.
Caolan had extensive treatment in Dublin and in Michigan, where he was enrolled on a preventative trial.
In the last nine months, Caolan suffered a relapse and today lost his battle when he died surrounded by his loving family.
“We are totally heartbroken but so proud of our wee man,” his family said on the Caolan Melaugh Fund Facebook page.
The Caolan Melaugh Fund generated fundraising activities all across Donegal and this year Republic of Ireland captain Seamus Coleman pledged €6,000 to the fund.
Caolan’s was a story that pulled on heartstrings everywhere.
His family said: “Thank you for all the support and we please ask everyone to respect our privacy at this hard time. Sleep tight darling free from pain and suffering from now on.”
