Retired Garda Sergeant Christy Galligan has expressed concern that many Major Incident Plans in the Gardaí are not being kept up to date.
Continuing from a statement on establishing an Independent Irish Intelligence Service, Galligan has said that the lack of updating is unacceptable.
Incident Plans.
“These major incident plans have a defined role for all stakeholders involved and those named individually where a major incident happens…. There is no point in taking down the plans and dusting it off if its not updated and we know each stakeholders response capabilities.”
“The truth of the matter is that most Major Incident Plans are not updated and some of these individuals named on these plans are either retired or deceased and phone numbers change.”
Training and Response time.
Galligan has also criticised the lack of training Gardaí receive for major incidents saying: “Response times and training are very important as well as communications between the different stakeholders”
“Having it on paper is one thing, training and preparedness is something else.”
