Councillor Micheal Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig was delighted to meet who he calls one of Donegal’s greatest ambassadors for Donegal; Iain Miller.
Mountaineer Iain is currently working with National Geographic journalists and photographers to put together a 30 page spread on Donegal.
The team at National Geographic are huge fans of Donegal – having crowned Donegal the ‘Coolest Place on the Planet’.
Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig hopes that this feature on Donegal will promote tourism to the county for this summer, in turn boosting the local economy.
“While working on the beautiful and stunning Owey Island last Sunday morning, I met with one, if not the best, ambassador for our county, Iain Miller.
“He was accompanied by a journalist and photographer from National Geographic magazine who is doing a 30 page spread on this great county of ours.
“This is an initiative that is been driven by Donegal County Council and Donegal Tourism and one that I believe this will be of huge benefit, by showcasing our beautiful county around the world.
“Tourism is going to be very important in terms of our economic recovery but it must benefit everyone, not just a handful of wealthy people.
“It is of the utmost importance that workers benefit hugely from this by being paid a living wage and not the usual subsistence wage that too many in this sector have had to survive on at only certain times of the year.”
