A grant of €65,000 has been sanctioned for Oideas Gael Teo in Gleann Cholm Cille to help promote the Irish language locally.
The grant has been welcomed by Minister of State Joe McHugh TD.
He said “I welcome confirmation this morning that an operational grant of €65,000 has been sanctioned for Oideas Gael Teo. for the 2017/18 academic year.”
The funding has been announced by Minister of State for Gaeltacht Affairs, Seán Kyne T.D., to assist with the operating costs associated with running the broad range of courses provided by Oideas Gael.
Minister McHugh added “Oideas Gael is an important organisation within our County, in promoting the Irish language, culture and heritage, to the local community and surrounding areas, and to the hundreds of visitors they have to Gleann Cholm Cille each year, from all over Ireland and abroad.
“Oideas Gael holds a special place in my heart in terms of my own personal journey, and I believe they greatly contribute to the local economy and in their promotion of the Irish language at home and abroad. I wish to commend Liam and Siobhán and all involved in this organisation, and I am pleased to see them receive this necessary funding.”
This funding is being provided under the 20-Year Strategy for the Irish Language 2010-2030.
