After fears that the Ferry would not resume this year following significant losses suffered in 2016, Frazer Ferries have confirmed that the ferry has been allocated funding for the next three years.
Donegal County Council placed the service out for tender, however Frazer Ferries were successful in their application. The ferry will have it’s first summer outing on Saturday the 1st of July and will continue sailing until September 17th.
Councillor Martin Farren said that there were 72,000 passengers on the ferry in 2016 and believed that guaranteeing the service will be a significant boost to the area.
“It’s a big hit into our DFI fund… and we generally give that money out to community groups, who are very, very deserving of it… we all know the importance of the ferry,” concluded Farren.
