A homecoming reception for NABF middleweight champion Jason Quigley will take place this week, it has been announced.
On Wednesday night, at 8pm, in the Finn Valley Centre, Quigley will show off his first pro belt to supporters – and everyone is invited!
The Finn Valley Centre has been the scene for some big homecomings for Quigley over the years, but this will be his first official one like this since turning professional.
In March, Quigley defeated Glen Tapia at Fantasy Springs to land the NABF middleweight strap.
Quigley sustained a broken hand and damaged tendons in the second round, but boxed on in spite of the injury. Subsequent surgery saw pins inserted in the Ballybofey man’s right hand, meaning he couldn’t fly home until this week.
On Friday night, Quigley was a special guest at Finn Harps’ Airtricity League Premier Division game against Limerick FC.
Quigley – who described himself after his win over Tapia as ‘a normal person that came from Ballybofey with a dream and a goal’ – holds the support of Donegal close to his heart.
“There is support for me all over the world, but there is no support like that from home in Donegal,” he said.
“I’ve become such a proud Donegal man. I’m so privileged to come from Donegal.
“The pride and passion that Donegal people have for someone trying to go out and do well…we always get behind our own people.
“The support I have is unbelievable. These things mean the world to me.”
