Shay Given’s professional football career looks to be over after Stoke City confirmed that the Liffordman is to be released from the club.
Given’s two-year contract at Stoke expires at the end of June and the 41-year-old is one of six players who are being let go by the Potters.
Given made five Premier League appearances for Stoke this season, all of them at the start of the season.
Despite Stoke number 1 Jack Butland being out injured, played second fiddle for the bulk of the campaign.
Given, capped 134 times by the Republic of Ireland, was in the Ireland squad for three major tournaments – the World Cup in 2002, Euro 2012 and Euro 2016 – and retired from international football for a second time last summer.
As his time at Stoke comes to a close, it would be no surprise if Given, who turned 41 in April, is hanging up his gloves for the final time.
Given has already done some punditry work and is tipped for a media career.
