Letterkenny Councillor Dessie Shields has criticized central government after it was announced that Donegal was allocated insufficient funds for children’s play and recreation projects.
Donegal received just €5,000 out of a total fund worth €250,000.
On the matter Shields said: “There are five municipal districts in Donegal, when you break that down that’s just €1,000 per municipal district and really that’s not going to go very far.”
According to Shields, Donegal received the least amount of funding in the country, and was given a third of what most other counties received. “It’s hardly worth getting,” said Shields.
“It begs the question, why is Donegal always at the bottom of the queue when it comes to these funding streams?” concluded Shields.
