The best and worst locations for passing the National Car Test (NCT) in Donegal have been revealed.
In 2016, the test centre in Carndonagh passed 51.6 per cent of the 7,195 vehicles tested, giving it the ninth highest pass-rate in the country.
However, in Derrybeg 56.9 per cent of vehicles tested failed. The Derrybeg centre was fourth in the list of fail percentage.
According to the figures, Kilkenny could be the best destination for motorists looking to pass the test, with 55 per cent of vehicles tested given a pass.
Motorists are allowed to book a test at any of the 47 centres nationwide.
In a statement to The Irish Times, Sinead McKeon, a spokeswoman for NCT operator Applus, said a number of factors can affect the outcome at different test centres.
“The age-mix of vehicles tested in one location compared with another and this can affect the overall pass rate for that centre,” said Ms McKeon.
“For example, 4-year-old vehicles have an average pass rate of 80 per cent, whereas 10+ year old vehicles have an average pass rate of 37 per cent.
“The mileage a car has undergone can also be a factor, with higher mileage vehicles being prone to failure. This particularly affects some rural locations.”
