The recruitment of nurses and health care staff for Carndonagh Community Hospital will be completed in the next number of weeks.
Inishowen Councillor Albert Doherty has welcomed confirmation from the HSE.
It is also hoped that full services including respite services will be then restored.
Cllr Doherty said “Since we learned of the loss of respite services at Carndonagh Community Hospital, myself and my colleague Senator Pádraig Mac Lochlainn have made repeated representations to HSE management, seeking answers.
“We understand that the recent loss of respite services at our local hospital has been the result of staff shortages due to retirement and illness leave.
“We believe that this loss of services could have been avoided if the HSE management had managed the recruitment and replacement of the retiring staff in a more timely fashion. Lessons must be learned from all of this.”
“However, we welcome the apology from the HSE and the assurance that the recruitment of nurses and health care staff will be completed in the next number of weeks and that full services will then be restored”.
